Etsy Wednesday #12: Who stole the cookie...

Something I've been wanting for a very long time is a vintage cookie jar. I've searched high and low, in antique malls, on on ebay - but I don't want a freaky clown or a goose with a bow around its neck holding on to my Oreo's or snickerdoodles. I loved my grandmothers' cookie jar (a train - The "Cookie RR" to be exact). It was always a surprise to lift the lid and find something in there. Sometimes homemade, sometimes store bought but always yummy. I want that kind of tradition in my house (yes, even after the holidays when I really don't feel like I want to eat another cookie ever again).

After a fun trip to my favorite antique mall last week I was re-inspired to keep looking for a cookie jar. When I got home and checked Etsy Vintage I was pleasantly surprised at the offerings there. Here are my top picks. Should it be whimsical? Have good typography? Be understated? Help me decide! Leave me a comment as to your favorite one.

From top to bottom, left to right:
French Typeface Cookie Jar : Covent Garden Vintage
Hull Cookie Jar : The Log Chateau
Red Wing Cookie Jar : Ranch Vintage
Chef Cookie Jar : Winkinpossum
McCoy Yellow and Brown Canisters : Cousin Honey Vintage
McCoy White Cookie Jar : The Chic Moose
Italian Cookie Jar :  Found Vintage Style
Fitz & Floyd Kangaroo Jar : Harmonica Jane
McCoy Jug Cookie Jar : Tonnies

And just because I've got cookies on my mind, here are three cookie themed items that won't go to your hips.

While I love the French one, I think the clear glass defeats the purpose of having a little surprise when you open the lid. For sheer whimsy, I'd go for the kangaroo...

thanks Cyn! I agree - I love the typography on the jars but it does ruin that surprise moment!

My eyes keep going back to the kangaroo. He/she makes you want to know what's inside. I love having a cookie jar - the kids check it all the time.

Hmm, they're all cute! I agree on the clear ones, nice but no surprise on what's inside. My favorite between fun and simple is the light blue Hull one. For pure fun, the kangaroo; and for cool and simple, one of the McCoy's....hard decision! :)

I don't know, I like the chef. He looks like he's up to something.

Fun post! And I think I prefer the Mc Coy ones. I like them all, but in the end I would choose the white one I guess, cuz I will never get tired of it's nice clean look. It will go with different kitchen styles, different colors! Good luck making a choice.

I really like the Hull & chef cookie jar. I have an old glass jar that I've put cookies or doughnuts in and it looks great the first day, but then the crumbs start to appear and it just looks messy. So even though they are pretty, I would stay away from the clear glass jars.

I love the large white canister. Simple yet lovely shape.

All this talk about cookies has got me hankerin' for something good. Maybe I'll have to bake tomorrow!

PS. Weird thing just happened... I was typing in the Word Verification and the word is "shetrain." I think it's a sign you need the train cookie jar from your grannie!
