Illustration Friday: Polar
Last week I heard a story about this guy on NPR. It got me thinking not only about adorable polar bears of course, but how our rapid consumption and commodification are having globally devastating effects. For Illustration Friday I give you Polar Pops, probably the worst product idea EVER! If you see them at at store near you, please don't buy them.

Wow, that's deep...I love the comment and the visual.
This is awesome. I love everything about it - the colours, the design, the overall concept - super dee-duper.
I especially like the type face choice!

That grumpster polar bear face cracks me up.
Very cool illustration,Miss J! (No pun intended). You did a great job of writing it, too!
You are also getting cool comments on your blog!
The tag line "polar bears don't" made me laugh. Nice work.
Okay, you struck a chord. After all the essence of a good illustration is that it gets an honest response. Here I go...I still can't get over the polar/bear walrus scene from Planet Earth. My heart breaks everytime I think of it. I've always made steps to live greener every day and now I have a felt sense in my body that inspires me to turn off lights, drive less, think 2 or 3 times before I buy something and hang up a clothes line. It's a new notch up for me. I feel for the first time that I am doing this not for some distant future goal, or because it's the right thing to do, but for polar bears, swimming for food. Every time I make a green choice I imagine the polar bear swimming a milimeter less to find food, to survive. Ours is the generation who will make it better for my daughter. This is our war protests, our civil rights fight, our save the whales. Put a polar bear sticker on your light switches and see what happens.
Okay, I guess I can take Polar Pops off my shopping list, but...well...if they make them in cherry flavor I might not be able to resist!
